Mattawa, WA

Mattawa is a small city in Grant County, in the central part of Washington State, with a population of roughly 4,500 residents. It sits on the south bank of the Columbia River, surrounded by the orchards, vineyards, and irrigated farmland of the Columbia Basin, and has the working, unpretentious character of a rural agricultural hub. The town serves as a gateway to river-based recreation on the Columbia and to the wider central Washington landscape of basalt cliffs, sage hills, and wine country, and it lies approximately 35 miles southeast of Wenatchee and roughly 80 miles northwest of the Tri-Cities of Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco.

The wider Wenatchee Valley and the surrounding Cascade foothills offer additional agritourism, hiking, and skiing opportunities within roughly an hour's drive, while the Gorge Amphitheatre, a well-known outdoor concert venue near the town of George, is about 30 miles to the north. For those willing to drive farther, Seattle is roughly two and a half hours west and the Tri-Cities are just over an hour southeast.
