The town is also home to the Robert Russa Moton Museum, which tells the story of the student-led civil rights protests that helped spark the desegregation of Virginia's public schools. Visitors can pair the museum with a walk along the downtown riverfront or a stop in one of the locally owned cafés before returning south to Blackstone for the evening.

Blackstone appeals to short-term-rental owners because it sits at the intersection of two distinct visitor markets: history and rail enthusiasts drawn to the Southside's railroad past, and outdoor travelers exploring High Bridge Trail, Fort Pickett's open lands, and the broader Piedmont countryside.
