Shiner, TX

Shiner is a small, friendly city in Lavaca County in southeast Texas, set among the rolling grasslands and oak motts where the Post Oak Savannah transitions into the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country. With a population of roughly 2,100 residents, the town has the kind of quiet, close-knit character that visitors associate with historic Czech and German-heritage communities of central Texas. Their vividly painted interiors, trompe-l'œil ceilings, and gold-leaf detailing are considered some of the finest examples of folk-art religious architecture in the United States and are an easy day trip from Shiner.

To the northwest, Palmetto State Park offers more than 270 acres of lush, tropical-looking bottomland forest along the San Marcos River, about a 50-minute drive from Shiner. The park is well known for its dense palms, tupelo trees, and clear, slow-moving waters ideal for tubing, paddling, and swimming, providing a refreshing outdoor escape for travelers using Shiner as a base.

Shiner appeals to short-term-rental owners because it sits at the intersection of small-town Texas character, a nationally recognized brand anchor, and a broader region filled with scenic drives, historic churches, river parks, and easy day trips to San Antonio, Austin, or Houston.
