Challenging to Investors

Albany Regulations

Albany, NY's STR regulations are challenging due to significant regulatory uncertainty as the city develops new rules with potential caps, inspections, and reporting, while also requiring standard compliance costs like zoning, safety codes, taxes, and insurance. The upcoming state registry (2025) adds layers of registration, data sharing, and tax collection, increasing operational complexity. While STRs are currently allowed under existing zoning, the regulatory flux and impending stricter rules deter investment risk tolerance.
