STRs are allowed under a registration‑based framework, but investors must register at federal, state, and local levels, comply with commercial zoning/use standards, and may need building/occupancy permits depending on the property; the current occupancy tax exemption for single units reduces cost, yet the system is evolving and could add taxes, inspection, and automation-driven enforcement.
