Truth or Consequences, affectionately known as T or C, is a small city in southern New Mexico and the seat of Sierra County, with a population of roughly 6,000 residents. The town has a relaxed, offbeat character rooted in its history as a hot springs destination, and it is best known for its geothermal bath houses and its unusual name, which it adopted in 1950 after the radio and television game show of the same name. Set in a wide stretch of the Rio Grande valley, T or C serves as a gateway to several of southern New Mexico's outdoor attractions, and it sits about 150 miles south of Albuquerque, the nearest major city, reached by roughly a three-hour drive along I-25.

Just a few miles north of town, Elephant Butte Lake State Park is one of the largest reservoirs in New Mexico and the region's marquee outdoor playground. The Geronimo Springs Museum, also in the downtown area, preserves local history with artifacts from the region's mining and ranching past and its connections to Apache heritage.
