Eden Prairie Regulations

Eden Prairie explicitly allows STRs, but operators must obtain the standard rental housing license with moderate annual fees ($105) and pass inspections, comply with zoning and fire/safety codes, and renew annually. No separate STR caps exist and enforcement is complaint‑driven, making compliance manageable but still a structured process.

About Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie is a suburban city of roughly 63,000 residents in Hennepin County, Minnesota, situated in the southwestern quadrant of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Often described as one of the best-planned suburbs in the region, it has a reputation for extensive parkland, a network of lakes and trails, and a concentration of corporate headquarters. It lies about 15 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis and roughly 20 minutes by car from the heart of the Twin Cities, giving visitors a quieter, greener base from which to explore the region. The city is also a gateway to the Minnesota River Valley and serves as a convenient jumping-off point for family attractions clustered along the I-494 and I-35W corridors.

One of the most prominent draws in the immediate area is Valleyfair, a large amusement and water park located in neighboring Shakopee, about 10 minutes southwest of Eden Prairie. It is the largest amusement park in the upper Midwest and offers roller coasters, a dedicated children's area, and the adjacent Soak City water park, making it a consistent anchor for family travel in the region. Just to the north, in Bloomington, the Mall of America is roughly 15 minutes away and remains one of the most visited shopping and entertainment complexes in the country, with an indoor theme park, aquarium, and hundreds of stores under one roof.

Outdoor recreation is a defining feature of the Eden Prairie area. The city itself is laced with parks and trails, and it borders the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, a long string of protected bottomland along the Minnesota River that offers hiking, wildlife viewing, and paddling. Within a short drive, visitors can also reach the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, about 20 minutes south, which houses indoor and outdoor exhibits focused on cold-climate and tropical species. For those interested in regional history, theMinnesota Historical Society's sites in the western metro and the river towns of the Minnesota Valley are easily accessible by car.

Eden Prairie's appeal as a short-term-rental base comes from this mix of corporate-suburban calm and proximity to some of the Twin Cities' biggest attractions. Travelers can return from a day at Valleyfair, a Mall of America outing, or a hike along the Minnesota River to a quieter, residential setting with restaurants, breweries, and lakeside parks within easy reach. Its central position on the southwestern freeway network makes it equally convenient for day trips into Minneapolis, Saint Paul, or the river bluffs farther south, giving guests a comfortable home base with the entire metro within a short drive.
