Bath sits in Sagadahoc County along the tidal Kennebec River in mid-coast Maine, just a few miles inland from the Atlantic. The city has a population of roughly 8,300 residents and carries a distinctly maritime character shaped by centuries of shipbuilding. It is widely known as "The City of Ships" and remains home to one of the country's most storied working shipyards. Roughly 20 miles to the east, the Boothbay peninsula draws visitors with its working harbor, lighthouse cruises, and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, one of the largest botanical gardens in New England. The town of Boothbay Harbor, with its downtown galleries, seafood restaurants, and seasonal foot ferry to Monhegan Island, is the area's busiest tourist hub and pairs naturally with a stay in Bath.
