Edgewater, MD

Edgewater is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, perched along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay where the South River empties into the larger estuary. With a population of roughly 9,000 residents, it carries the feel of a relaxed waterfront residential community shaped by its coves, creeks, and small marinas. The area serves as an easy gateway to the Chesapeake Bay and sits just southeast of Annapolis, the Maryland state capital, while Washington, D.C. lies about 35 miles to the west and Baltimore roughly 30 miles to the north.

One of Edgewater's own signature draws is Historic London Town and Gardens, an 18th-century colonial seaport set directly on the South River. The site preserves the surviving foundations and tavern of what was once a thriving tobacco port, alongside more than 20 acres of woodland and ornamental gardens open to the public. Operated as a county museum, it offers visitors a tangible sense of the Chesapeake's early maritime trade and is just minutes from anywhere in the community.
