Stockbridge, MA

Stockbridge is a small, picturesque town in Berkshire County in the western Massachusetts Berkshires, with a year-round population of roughly 2,000 residents. Known for its well-preserved New England character, tree-lined Main Street, and rolling forested hills, it has long drawn visitors seeking a quiet, art-minded escape from urban life. The town is best known as the adopted home of the illustrator Norman Rockwell and serves as a gateway to the broader Berkshires region, with its summer music festivals, hiking trails, and historic estates. Within Stockbridge itself, Naumkeag is a 44-room Gilded Age estate with formal gardens designed by the landscape architect Fletcher Steele. The property, now part of The Trustees of Reservations, is open seasonally for tours and offers panoramic views over the Berkshires. Just up the road, Chesterwood was the summer home and studio of Daniel Chester French, the sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial, and is preserved as a house museum with rotating exhibitions of his work.
