About Plant City

Plant City sits in Hillsborough County, in central Florida, with a population of approximately 40,000. Known as the self-proclaimed "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World," the city has a friendly small-town character shaped by its agricultural roots, citrus groves, and a walkable historic downtown lined with locally owned shops and restaurants. Located roughly 25 miles east of Tampa along the I-4 corridor, Plant City offers a quieter alternative to the busier Tampa Bay metro while remaining within easy reach of major attractions. It also serves as a natural gateway between the Tampa area and the attractions of Polk County to the east.

The Florida Strawberry Festival is the city's signature event and one of the largest annual fairs in the southeastern United States. Held each year from late February through early March, the festival draws hundreds of thousands of visitors for live entertainment, agricultural exhibits, livestock shows, midway rides, and notably, freshly made strawberry shortcake. The multi-week event transforms Plant City into one of the busiest communities in the region and gives the city's rental market a strong seasonal peak.

Just northeast of the city, Hillsborough River State Park offers a scenic escape into central Florida's natural landscape. The park follows the Hillsborough River and includes one of the few natural rapids in the state, along with miles of hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, and a popular campground. It is about a 15- to 20-minute drive from downtown Plant City and provides a welcome contrast to the surrounding farmland.

To the west, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is one of the most-visited attractions in central Florida, combining roller coasters and thrill rides with African-themed animal habitats and live shows. The park is roughly a 30- to 40-minute drive from Plant City, making the city a practical home base for families looking to enjoy the Tampa theme-park corridor without paying for downtown lodging. Nearby water parks, professional sports venues, and the Tampa Riverwalk add to the appeal.

East of Plant City, the city of Lakeland sits about 20 minutes away and offers additional cultural draws, including Bonnet Springs Park, a large urban park with gardens, walking trails, a children's museum, and event spaces. Together, these nearby destinations give short-term rental guests a varied mix of agriculture, nature, and family entertainment within a short drive in nearly any direction.

Plant City's blend of small-town charm, central Hillsborough County location, and proximity to both Tampa and Lakeland make it a versatile base for short-term rental guests. The strong winter strawberry season, year-round access to theme parks and state parks, and easy interstate connections give the city consistent appeal for travelers exploring the broader Tampa Bay and central Florida region.
