North Port, FL

North Port is a growing city in Sarasota County on Florida's southwest Gulf Coast, with a population of approximately 80,000 residents. Once a quiet stretch of pine flatwoods and palmetto between Sarasota and Port Charlotte, it has expanded into one of the larger municipalities in the region, characterized by newer subdivisions, family-oriented neighborhoods, and an unusually high ratio of natural green space to developed land. One of the city's most distinctive features is Warm Mineral Springs, a natural spring located within North Port's own city limits. Just east of the city lies Myakka River State Park, one of the largest and oldest state parks in Florida. Roughly a 20- to 30-minute drive from most parts of North Port, the park protects wetlands, hammocks, and prairies along the Myakka River and offers wildlife viewing, an airboat tour, hiking and biking trails, and a treetop canopy walkway.
