Jensen Beach, FL

Jensen Beach is a small coastal community on Florida's Atlantic coast in Martin County, part of the region known as the Treasure Coast. With a population of roughly 12,000 to 13,000 residents, the unincorporated census-designated place has the feel of a laid-back beach town, with quiet residential streets, mango and citrus trees, a handful of locally owned businesses, and a stretch of Atlantic shoreline that draws surfers, sunbathers, and anglers. It sits about 45 miles north of West Palm Beach along the coastal corridor, and functions as a relaxed gateway to the wider Treasure Coast, including the larger town of Stuart just to the south and the long, mostly undeveloped barrier islands that line the lagoon side of the peninsula.

The beach itself, reached via public access points along Northeast Ocean Boulevard and through the Hutchinson Island causeways, is one of the main draws, with wide sand, gentle surf, and a long-standing reputation as a surfing spot. A few minutes south of central Jensen Beach, Indian RiverSide Park straddles the Indian River Lagoon in adjacent Stuart and offers a public fishing pier, boardwalks through mangroves, a splash pad, and the Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast, making it a family-friendly stop roughly a 10-minute drive from most of Jensen Beach.

A short drive farther south along Highway A1A brings visitors to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, a roughly 1,000-acre preserve of sand pine scrub, dunes, and beachfront that protects nesting sea turtles and more than thirty species of federally listed plants and animals. The refuge's Hobe Mountain observation tower and the half-mile Dune Trail are well-known local hikes, and the visitor area is about 20 minutes from Jensen Beach. Just offshore of that same stretch of Hutchinson Island, the St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park protects a wild, boat-only barrier island with white sand, surf fishing, and dense populations of gopher tortoises and shorebirds.

Back on the mainland a few minutes south, the Elliott Museum in Stuart focuses on regional history, vintage automobiles, baseball memorabilia, and the work of inventor Sterling Elliott, while the historic House of Refuge at Gilbert's Bar, one of the last surviving lifesaving stations built along Florida's coast in 1876, offers a small glimpse into the area's shipwreck-rescue past. Together these nearby sites give Jensen Beach visitors an easy mix of beach time, outdoor exploration, and low-key cultural stops within a short drive.

Jensen Beach is a compelling base for short-term rentals precisely because it combines a genuine small-town Florida character with quick access to a surprisingly varied set of attractions. Guests can surf or relax on the beach in the morning, paddle or fish the Indian River Lagoon by afternoon, and still make a sunset stop at a museum, refuge, or seafood spot in Stuart or Hobe Sound, all without the crowds and congestion of South Florida's larger beach markets.
