A bit farther on, roughly 35 minutes southwest, Minnewaska State Park Preserve sits atop the Shawangunk Ridge and features dramatic sky lakes, waterfalls, and miles of cliff-edge trails. Together these landscapes make the city a practical base for travelers who want to pair a walkable historic town with substantial outdoor recreation.

Kingston works well as a short-term rental base because it bridges the urban and the rural: guests can spend mornings browsing antique shops in Uptown, afternoons on Catskill ridge trails, and evenings dining along the Rondout, all within a short drive.
